Thank you! As someone who’s worked hard to overcome my shopaholic habits, this is a phrase I’ve had to remind myself of many times over the years. While I’m still occasionally tempted by a good sale, it helps me stay grounded and resist the urge to splurge.
Couldn’t agree more. Having worked in fashion, with people who had access to everything, I found they had the tightest wardrobe edits. This reflects great self-awareness and confidence, not a lack of creativity.
I noticed that people who also claim to have their personal style and capsule wardrobes are only doing the minimalism/ quiet luxury trend. I think a lot of people misinterpret the phrase personal style and switch over to minimalism and just neutral colors to compensate and cover up. However it does spark a itch to then go on a shopping spree.
Its so important to be self reflective, when consuming media to constantly ask yourself do i actually like this? Is this realistic for me? And then overtime your NATURAL taste and eye grows with you.
I couldn’t agree more. When you love everything, you love nothing. Constraints breed resourcefulness and creativity, while abundance often suffocates both. Boundaries push us to make more thoughtful choices.
Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s style perfectly illustrates this principle. Her wardrobe demonstrates that less isn’t just more—it’s better.
This wisdom extends into every creative domain. When we reach to chase trends or pursue every new idea, we dilute our personal style and creative vision. Instead, working within limitations challenges us to refine our choices and discover innovative solutions.
So true. I find as I age, I want a uniform. That doesn’t mean that my style has to be boring. I see women who wear The Row without any sense of style. My mother , who was very chic, always told me” money doesn’t buy style”
Part of the beauty of anti trends and overconsumption movements in Fashion, is the exploration of the Self and personal style and curation.
And I think this argument can be made for any other piece of culture we consume... People should reflect more on what they watch, listen and read, to figure out if they really reflect what we really enjoy, or if we are just accepting whatever it's thrown on us.
Huge difference between a fashionable person and a stylish one. A person with true personal style will only pick up on a trend that actually expresses them as a person, and those pieces stay in rotation.
Coincidentally, I was watching older videos of myself when I was going through an “extremely picky buyer” phase, and I thought damn, my style was on point. Then I looked at more recent videos after I started thrifting more / being more in the fashion community, and thought “what the HELL happened?!” lol… I clowned myself. It’s good to have perspective.
Finally. Fashion chasing should be grotesque on a planet burning up due to human overconsumption — but it looks desperate and silly to boot.
Couldn’t agree more!
This is brilliantly fabulous. Personal style
must be curated.
“Style is about curating, not accumulating” OOOOOF that’s good.

Personal style is about wearing what you love not wearing what other people love

Could not agree more… the social media HAULS haunt me… and when influencers say IM OBSESSED but you only see them wear the item once……….
I think this every time I watch real housewives…
